New York jazz pianist Julian Waterfall Pollack will be featured at the Veterans Hall on “Art, Dance & Jazz Night”, Saturday, May 21st. Pollack will be joined by the Dance Red Bluff dance school and CSU Professor Rob Davidson performing a fiction reading at the event, which begins at 7 PM.

Doors open at 6 P.M. with live music by Joe Dynan of the Santa Cruz band “Reliques” and a silent Art Auction to benefit Tehama County arts. Performances will begin at 7 P.M. at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall, 735 Oak Street in Red Bluff. The Veteran’s Hall bar will be open during this event.

Pollack, widely considered the hottest jazz pianist coming up, was a guest on NPR’s Piano Jazz when he was only 19. The San Francisco Chronicle raves about Pollack, saying he is “a ferociously assured and creatively dazzling pianist, composer and arranger…”

His Julian Waterfall Pollack Trio has a full-time event schedule, playing across the US and in Europe. In Red Bluff, he will be playing music from his new CD, Infinite Playground.

“At only 22 years of age Julian Waterfall Pollack is already extremely technically adept—but he also invests his playing on Infinite Playground, his third album, with masses of heart and soul, adding an emotional intensity that lifts this music to uncommon heights,” according to ALL ABOUT JAZZ.

Local talent from the Dance Red Bluff dance school will perform early in the evening with a jazz dance routine. Chico State’s Professor Rob Davidson will do a fiction reading from the new book, “Fog and Woodsmoke: Behind the Image”.

Rob Davidson is the author of Field Observations (Missouri, 2001) and The Master and the Dean: The Literary Criticism of Henry James and William Dean Howells (Missouri, 2005). His long story “Criminals” won the 2009 Camber Press Fiction Award, judged by Ron Carlson, and will be published as a limited-edition chapbook. He teaches English at C.S.U., Chico.

MC for the evening is Sophie Rogers-Davidson co-host of the KZFR 90.1 FM show “Beatle Nation,” which airs every other Wednesday from 7.00-7.30 p.m. She is an eighth grader at Chico Country Day School and studies ballet at Kinetics Academy of Dance.

Art, Dance and Jazz Night is sponsored by Sky River Music, Blue Oaks Arts, Kremer Chiropractic, The Gold Exchange, the Travel Lodge, the Gaia Hotel, Bob’s Tires, Gumm’s Optical Shoppe, Wild Oak and Jay Murphy, Sculptural Eccentrics. Tickets, $10 each, are available online or at the Red Bluff Art Gallery, 601 Walnut Street.
