What: 2nd Annual Rising Stars Gala to Benefit Schreder Planetarium and Whiskeytown Environmental School
When: Oct 9, 7 p.m.
Where: Cascade Theatre
Cost: $30
CH2M Hill and Critigen, in conjunction with Schreder Planetarium and Whiskeytown Environmental School, are staging the second Rising Stars Gala on October 9, 2010. The gala will include live music, live and silent auctions, and gaming. We need your help to raise money for more children to participate in Whiskeytown Environmental School (WES) and Schreder Planetarium programs. All donations and proceeds from the gala will go directly to scholarship funds for these educational programs. Ten percent of funds raised will be placed in the Clair Hill Scholarship fund at Shasta College. Our mission is to raise awareness of the sciences in the community and beyond to better prepare K-12 and college students for the future.
As most of you know, budget shortfalls continue to cut funding to two of our most valued local science and engineering youth education programs, Schreder Planetarium and Whiskeytown Environmental School. Because of the lack of funding for scholarships, and the impact of the current economy on local families, many children are unable to attend these important programs that provide the motivation and inspiration needed to make decisions about continued education and careers in the sciences.
Last year, this event generated $23,000 to support 275 aspiring engineers and scientists to participate in local math and science education programs. WES would not have been able to function this year without our support. Tickets are $30 per person, and well worth it.
