City to Perform Annual Water-Main Flushing

In order to improve water quality for Enterprise and Cascade (South Redding)-area residents, Redding Municipal Utilities crews will flush water mains at fire hydrants Tuesday (April 27) through Friday (April 30). The annual springtime flushing helps remove sediment that builds up over the summer in water mains served by the City’s wells. Removal of the sediment by flushing will help reduce any issues residents may have with taste, odor and discoloration of the water.

Flushing is kept to a minimum to conserve water as much as possible, said Mike Sybert, Redding Water Utility Supervisor-Distribution. The flushing will be done between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and residents are asked to keep water use to a minimum during the flushing, as the water may be discolored.

Here are the specific locations and days the flushing will occur:

Tuesday, April 27 – Cascade Area
All areas south of the railroad underpass along South Market Street to Redding Ranchettes or the City limits. East to the Sacramento River and West to Cedars Road, including Westwood Manor, Kenyon Drive, Branstetter Lane, and Clear Creek Road.
Wednesday, April 28 – South Enterprise Area
All areas south of Hartnell Avenue from the Sacramento River to the eastern City limits.
Thursday, April 29 – North Enterprise Area
All areas north of Hartnell Avenue to the Bella Vista Water District boundaries and from the Sacramento River to the eastern City limits.
Friday, April 30 – Spot Flushing in Various Locations
Spot flushing of specific areas may be performed. Affected customers will be notified via targeted mailing, phone calls, and/or door hangers.
