Some Music Notes

Allison and Victor’s CD Release Party at the Vintage Wine Bar tonight (Friday) will include percussionists Joe Furnari and Mike Harris. Also, according to Furnari, guitarist Rick Garrett will stop in for tunes.

Should be a nice party with the acoustic duo, whose new CD, “Cool Like the Breeze,” features six songs written by Scull (including the title track) and one by Martin. The album was recorded by Ron Davis (sound engineer for the Monterey Jazz Festival) at his Wing and a Prayer Production studio in Central Point, Ore.

• Guitarist Mike Powell also performs Friday night at Maritime Seafood and Grill.

• The North State Songwriters Group will present a Songwriter Showcase during Cultural Cruise from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Redding City Hall.

• While grabbing an ice cream at Leatherby’s Family Creamery, I heard that a songwriter/poetry event called Love Lounge attracted more than 100 people and was highly successful. The event continues as a series on the third Thursday of the month at the restaurant. The next one is Feb. 18.

• Some nice news for blues fans. Johnny’s Cathouse is apparently creating a Sunday Night Concert Series. Blues star Tommy Castro is to  perform Feb. 21. Other names being kicked around as possible performers — Elvin Bishop, CoCo Montoya, Charlie Musselwhite and Marcia Ball. That’s an impressive list.
