Great Hopping Writers!

ArtHop is TONIGHT, and great visual and performing arts will be hopping at locations all around the town. At one venue, we’ll celebrate the art of the written word.

Writers Forum takes over Ethan Allen Home Interiors from 6 to 9 p.m., and several authors will be there to read from, talk about and sell their books. Some of the local writers on the lineup: Jamie Weil, Linda Boyden, Joel Stratte-McClure, Carol Giaccomucci and me. Our own Phil Fountain will be there, too, peddling his papers.

Other members of Writers Forum plan to swing by for quick visits/readings while they’re out ArtHopping. Ethan Allen is on Park Marina Circle near Movies 8. It’s No. 37 on the ArtHop map, which you’re going to go print out as soon as you finish reading this.

Bob Place at Ethan Allen is always a gracious host, and he says we can even sit on the furniture if we behave ourselves. (Except for Phil.)

Saturday’s a busy day for those of us on the Writers Forum board (they call me director-at-extra-large). At 10:30 a.m., Writers Forum hosts a free talk by suspense writer Simon Wood at the Redding Library. Details at the WF website here.

  • Apparently, there are people who make New Year’s resolutions to have more sex. I thought that was more of a daily devotional. Anyway, more sex is a good resolution to make because sex is good for your health. Let us count the ways by clicking here.
  • The Opportunity Scholarship Fund of the Shasta Regional Community Foundation is accepting applications from high school seniors. Three Northern California seniors will be awarded scholarships of up to $10,000. Deadline is March 31. Details here.
  • Sports: They’re calling it simply “The Lob.” With less than a second on the clock, Paul Pierce made the perfect alley-oop pass to a soaring Rajon Rondo to force Wednesday night’s game into overtime, and the Boston Celtics went on to beat the Miami Heat, 112-106.  See the video here.
