Taking Care of Yourself Is a Necessity, Not a Luxury

In these hectic and financially uncertain times, we often make cutbacks or concessions on things that we no longer deem “necessary.”  Things such as facials, waxing, or massages are often put on the back burner and as a result, what happens is we tend to not only feel burned out but look it as well.  For those of us in these types of service-oriented industries, we understand that taking care of ourselves is a two-fold accomplishment:  we achieve both skin maintenance and stress reduction at the same time.

Skin therapy doesn’t really have anything to do with luxury or relaxation.  It’s a necessity, a part of health and well-being like fitness or nutrition.  As we age, our cellular renewal rate slows down and it’s up to us to give mother nature a helping hand.  And unfortunately, a quick rinse over the bathroom sink at night before we go to bed just isn’t going to cut it.  That’s why seeing a skin care therapist who can address each person’s individual needs is so important to retaining the integrity of our skin.  Whether battling dryness, aging, acne, or any other skin condition, an esthetician is trained with the knowledge and tools one needs to address any issue. The fact that one can receive a treatment that not only gives the results needed but also can be so rejuvenating is just icing on the cake.

When things are tough, it’s crucial to take the time to give ourselves a peaceful, serene experience so we can come out of it feeling recharged. In stressful times, people NEED that.  People require an escape now more than ever.  If we’re running around completely frazzled, burning the candle at both ends and don’t give ourselves the opportunity to relax, everything in our lives will suffer as a consequence.  Anyone who receives a facial or massage on a regular basis will attest that it is vital to their well-being and helps them to function at their optimal level.  And if one can look better in the process, it’s a win-win situation.

As a result of the current state of the economy, many boutiques and spas are offering discounts.  Often there are first-time client or package specials, and if you don’t see one, just ask!  (Also, a gift certificate always makes the perfect present in the event you don’t know what to get someone this holiday season.)

It’s only when we’re really taking care of ourselves, looking and feeling our finest, that we can be our best possible selves, whether it’s at home, the workplace, or wherever we might be.  That translates to truly being at our highest potential and in return getting the most out of life.  So why not give yourself a little sanity and carve out some time for yourself?  You, as well as those around you, will be glad you did.

I had the pleasure of an amazing facial at Glow Boutique yesterday. I am just what Sarah described above, the busy Mom that puts herself way down on the list. Every moment in Glow I felt loved, cared for, and was able to relax! I really like that all of the products that Sarah used on my skin were organic. I am so careful of what I put into my body, I had an ahha moment that it is just as important to care for what I put ON my body as well.

Thank you Sarah for sharing your wisdom of skin care with A News Cafe, I look forward to learning more, and importanly, visiting Glow Skincare Boutique again.

Sarah Mahannah is my esthetician. Since I have been going to her (about a year), I have changed my whole skin care routine. I use only organic products (Starflower) on my skin and it shows. I am finally feeling great about my skin with out make up. I am 38 years old and I don't really mind aging except the drying and aging of my skin. I have adopted her belief in organic coconut oil and it literally cured my eczema. No more itching. Beautiful hot baths with coconut oil renew my most stressful days. She is a phone call away from me when I have any questions, and I have a lot of questions. She knows what works and I just keep on doing it.
