Igo Celebrates the Season

The Igo Christmas Parade celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and the Shasta County community is selling commemorative T-shirts and the like at Saturday’s parade.

Igo’s parade is at 1 p.m., so you could attend it and still be back in Redding for the big downtown Christmas parade that evening. Christmas trees will be on sale across from the Igo post office, and the prices are a real bargain — ranging from $10 to $35.

Funds raised by tree sales go to a variety of community events, and the proceeds from T-shirt sales help pay for next year’s parade.

  • The holiday season can be emotionally rough for people who’ve lost loved ones, and Mercy Medical Center opens its Light Up a Life program this Sunday to help people celebrate the lives of those who are gone. The hospital will host a Tree of Life, and people can add lights to it in memoriam. The lighting ceremony is at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, but the residents can add lights throughout the month.
