Free Music Tonight

“Musical Tuesdays at the Library” continues at 6 p.m. tonight as multi-instrumentalist Yvonne Sutherland performs an all-ages show in the Redding Library’s community room.

Sutherland will play harp, guitar and fiddle as she takes listeners along on her personal musical journey.

“Musical Tuesdays” are the first Tuesday of each month. The library hosts a variety of musicians and musical styles.

Another crazy-busy Saturday lies on the horizon, so you’d better make your plans now. Not only is it Second Saturday ArtHop (click here for info) and Big Bike Weekend, but a slew of other events are scheduled as well. Here’s a sampling:

  • Turtle Bay Exploration Park has its Family Day programs on the second Saturday of each month. This Saturday, it’s Old West Days, featuring shootout performances by the Law Dawgs & Pistoleros of the Old West. There’ll also be acting and talks by the Turtle Bay History Players. The fun goes from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
  • Drive-by Chita: Popular KRCR-TV meteorologist Chita Johnson joins Billy & Patrick of Q97 on Saturday in a live remote broadcast to raise money for the Shasta Women’s Refuge. The media celebrities will set up in the parking lot of Redding’s Mt. Shasta Mall (near Sears), and accept drive-thru cash donations. First 100 donors get a gift. The Women’s Refuge is trying to make up some of the $207,200 in funding recently lost to state budget cuts.
  • Up in Fall River Mills, this Saturday is the Hispanic Health Fair at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. The event, which runs from noon until 2 p.m., includes nutritional information and health screenings. For more info, call 335-6703.
