Traffic accidents are the No. 1 cause of death and injury among young children, and that’s often because the kids are not in protective car seats or the car seats are secured improperly.
Shasta County Public Health is campaigning for parents to make sure they’re properly using the car seats. Parents can get a professional check from the California Highway Patrol (242-3200), or attend a car seat class, held regularly in Redding and the Intermountain area. For more info, call 245-6877.
Law requires all children under the age of 6 and/or under 60 pounds to be restrained in an age-appropriate child safety seat.
