The good folks at BloodSource have slated their 8th Annual Summer Blood Drive for this Friday, and they’re using pizza, ice cream and assorted other goodies to lure donors.
The blood drive runs from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1880 Park Marina Drive. Donors can get commemorative T-shirts, coupons for more free ice cream and automatic entry into a weekly $250 drawing.
Mmmm, ice cream.

- The HawkMan Studios reception for artist Tiger Michiels was the place to be last night. Vintage Wine Bar and Restaurant was packed with a noisy mix of artists and art lovers and business folks and friends of Tiger’s from the Rotary Club of Redding. Proceeds from a sparkling wine tasting went to the Sundial Film Festival. Tiger’s vivid, fun paintings will up at Vintage through most of August. Check ’em out.
- Registered nurse Genevieve Deal is the July employee of the month at Mercy Medical Center in Redding. The nine-year employee works in the cardiac care unit. Congrats!
- DVDs I Watched on the Dreadmill: “Incendiary,” a dreary British film about the emotional aftermath of a terrorist bombing. Skip it. Much better, even on second viewing, is the Ethan Hawke/Philip Seymour Hoffman robbery flick, “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead.”
- Two Words for all you youngsters who can’t wait for the freedom and joy that comes with getting older: Foot care.
