The Greater Redding Chamber of Commerce has sent out an alert to businesses, warning of a deceptive letter that makes it look like the businesses are overdue in filing paperwork with the state.
A third party in the letter offers to file the paperwork required by the California Corporation Code in return for substantial fees and documentation. The letters come with official-looking seals and “file numbers” and they resemble documents from the Secretary of State’s office, but they’re bogus.
The actual fee for the filing mentioned in the letters is $25 or less and businesses can do it themselves.

- I’ve been thinking about the difference between a bed that’s made up and one that’s just spread up. Most days, our bed is merely spread up, the top covers straightened enough that a passing visitor won’t see the bed’s underclothing. Most days, that’s the way I look, too. Rumpled, but at least my undergarments aren’t visible to passers-by. As far as I know.
- Mark Your Calendars for Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., when Redding Loaves & Fishes and other groups host an open house for a large commercial building that will be used as a year-round shelter and job-training center. The building is at 4001 Eastside Rd., near where South Market Street ducks under the railroad tracks.
- Another Warning: If you’ve got a lot of work to do, you might want to avoid playing Scrabble online with your semi-retired friends. Trust me.
