At a restaurant, my mother-in-law found a plastic shard in her scrambled eggs. She’s not squeamish — she’s of hardy ranch stock — so the talk about this two-inch-long intruder was very calm and centered more on origin than the “ewww” factor.
We all speculated about how the shard got in the eggs, then our 20-year-old son, the hippie, somberly said: “I just feel sorry for the chicken.”
