Feed the Pets

Amongst all the food and clothing drives of late, I might’ve overlooked one: Shasta Outlets in Anderson has partnered with Haven Humane in conducting a pet food drive.

All types of pet food are being collected at the outlet mall’s 4G Wireless Verizon store next to Long John Silver’s. The food drive continues through July 31, so swing by there with some Alpo.

  • Guys Wanted: Redding Musical Theater company has gotten plenty of women to audition for its forthcoming production of “Footloose,” but urgently needs more guys for the male roles. If you’ve always wanted to be a singing, dancing star of the stage, now’s your chance. Call 515-3262.
  • Here’s some highway news for Lassen and Plumas County. State Road 36 is being repaved just west of Chester in a pilot project that will use recycled pavement. CalTrans says a separate project on SR 36 near Westwood is replacing or restoring 21 culverts. Expect construction delays in both places.
  • Remember when they used to call newspapers “broadsheets?” Now, when you hold a newspaper, your thumbs touch.
  • DVD We’ve Seen: We finally watched “Gran Torino” with the incredibly crusty Clint Eastwood as a Korean War vet/ widower/bigot who’s holding out as the last white man in a Hmong neighborhood. Great flick.
  • DVD I Watched on the Dreadmill: “The Edukators,” a German film about three young radicals who more-or-less accidentally kidnap a rich guy. Interesting premise, but about 30 minutes longer than it needed to be. Slow, but ponderous.
