Greetings, Webbies! Thanks for stopping in. Here we go again…
Phun Phact: The Wild Australian Striped Fuzzy Wombat is reported to be nearing extinction. Researchers believe the cause for the species’ demise is due, in part, to its heavy Aussie accent which makes its orders completely unintelligible to the average restaurant service professional, resulting in starvation. The fact they’ve gained a reputation as poor tippers has not aided their plight.
News of Notes: As in musical notes. Rumor has it that a new CD from the North State’s own Jim Dyar Band is currently in the mixing stage and should be available by their June 25th Cascade Theatre performance. The prodigious Americana/Roots/ Rock group will be opening for Dave Alvin & The Guilty Women on the evening of Viva Downtown’s 2009 kick-off of the popular MarketFest series. Should make for a kickass Thursday night! Can’t wait to hear the CD, despite the fact that yours truly was not commissioned to do the cover art for this, the inaugaral JDB release. That’s OK. I understand. All I can say is it looks like I’ll be hiring that 2003 American Idol 9th place finisher to play my bar mitzvah. (Seriously though, I hear the cover art is great.)
Sports Retorts: OK, I love basketball. I love the NBA. But, isn’t the playoff season getting out of hand? It’s been nearly two freaking months since the regular season ended and we’re only up to game two of the finals. Two months. By the time the NBA season culminates by crowning the 2008-09 champion, Major League Baseball will be just a few days away from their Midseason Classic, the All-Star Game! NCAA hoops finished up in early, early April (so much for ‘March Madness’) — what the heck are we doing still playing a ‘winter sport’ at the summer solstice? It’s not just basketball, hockey season is at the same juncture as the NBA right now, the Red Wings and Penguins are playing game five of the Stanley Cup Finals as we speak. Hockey! In June! TV is altering Mother Nature’s internal clock in a completely unhealthy way. Now pass the nachos, we’re about to tip-off.

See you next time.
Love & Snoochie-Woochies, your little woogums,
Philbert
