A second case of the H1N1 virus, better known as swine flu, has been reported in Shasta County, according to the county Public Health Department.
A woman in Eastern Shasta County contracted the flu, but has recovered at home. The virus was confirmed as swine flu by the state Department of Public Health today.
County officials said the woman had not traveled out of the area, so contracted the swine flu here. Cases have also been confirmed in Tehama, Butte and Humboldt counties, so the virus is clearly in the North State.
Swine flu has symptoms like regular human flu, and is spread through sneezing and touching items handled by contagious people. Health officials urge anyone with flu-like symptoms to check with their health care provider and to be careful not to spread the germs.
