Corner Booth: The Irrelevant in the Room

As if trying to prove once and for all that it has absolutely nothing to offer the American people, the Republican National Committee is trying to make an issue of President Obama taking the First Lady to New York for dinner and a Broadway play on Saturday night.

Obama had promised his wife, Michelle, before the election that he’d treat her to an evening in New York once the grueling campaign ended.

On its website, the GOP snarked: “As President Obama prepares to wing into Manhattan’s theater district on Air Force One to take in a Broadway show, GM is preparing to file bankruptcy and families across America continue to struggle to pay their bills. Have a great Saturday evening — even if you’re not jetting off somewhere at taxpayer expense.”

Would someone please add up how much taxpayer money was spent on the previous president’s vacations in Crawford, Texas? Thank you.

  • The Orlando Magic handily defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers, and will face the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA finals. Dwight Howard scored 40 points in the last game of the Cleveland series, and he could give the Lakers’ big men fits. Should be a good series.
