I’m in Modesto and my ride is leaving soon for Yosemite and the Strawberry Music Festival. Unlike every year since I’ve been aware of it, Strawberry is actually not sold out for this spring session. So come on down and join us at Camp All Y’all!
I just heard the engine start, so I’ve got to make this quick.
• Steel Magnolias at the Riverfront Playhouse. Directed by Jonessa Brittan, the play opens Saturday (May 23) at the playhouse at 1620 E. Cypress Ave. (at the end of an industrial row). It runs through June 20.
• Bob Dylan All-Star Birthday Bash with Slam Buckra. Slam, a great fan of the Bob, is joined by others for an evening of music on Saturday night at Vintage Wine Bar (across from Market Street Steakhouse) in downtown Redding.
(Since I’m out of town and out of the loop, here are a couple of assists from my friend Rachael 911.)
• Diana Wells acoustic set at the Downtown Eatery on Friday during dinner hour.
• At the Cascade Theatre, it’s The Vistas Senior Idol. Starts at 6 p.m. Saturday. Now that could be interesting.
• For gearheads and admirers of vintage hot cars, the Shasta Raceway Park has an ALL vintage race series starting Friday. Click here for information.
(A couple of album suggestions from me.)
• Slaid Cleaves’ “Every Thing You Love Will Be Taken Away.” I just had one listen through on this album, but it was enough to know it’s a super one. Slaid takes time to release a batch of songs, but when he does, it’s worth the wait.
• Patty Griffin’s “Children Running Through.” Oh my gosh does this woman have a voice. A super collection of songs.
