Corner Booth: Get a Job

Job Expo 2009 is this week at Shasta College. This should be a big one, considering our whopping unemployment rate; it features employers who are currently hiring.

The job fair runs from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Thursday at the Shasta College gymnasium. Free parking, or take RABA Bus Route 7 to get there and receive a free return ride. Job-seekers are encouraged to come prepared with application information, résumés and references.

Along with potential employers, the fair will offer job search workshops and access to lots of job-related information.

  • One of the sponsors of Job Expo 2009 is the state Employment Development Department, which also offers the Youth Employment Opportunity Program, for those under 21. For more information, call Callie at 225-2190 or Whitney at 225-2337.
  • One day, everything in the land will be run by people named Callie and Whitney.
  • How ’bout that Final Four? Two Cinderellas running headlong into the point-blank attack of the two biggies everyone predicted would be there. Michigan State vs. UConn and Villanova vs. North Carolina next Saturday, with the final to come on April 6. Villanova’s exciting win over Pitt was the highlight of last weekend’s round. And poor Blake Griffin of Oklahoma. It’s hard to score when you’re triple-teamed all day. He had Tar Heels hanging off him like Christmas ornaments.
  • Movies We’ve Seen: “Duplicity,” a corporate spy caper with Julia Roberts and Clive Owen. Fun movie, if a little more clever with the timeline than it needed to be. The pizza/conversation afterward was even more fun.
