Jam-Packed Weekend

I look at the 2nd Saturday Art Hop postcard and I’m just blown away:

• The Westside Performing Arts Company kicks off the event from 5-6 p.m. at their studio at 1666 Cypress Ave., Suite 8.

Then the event blasts off into more than two dozen venues, including:

• The Dance Project performing at EveryDay Fitness & Training, 2355 Athans Ave.

• Riverfront Playhouse actors performing scenes from “And Then There Were None” at the playhouse’s future home at 1701 Pine St. (corner of Pine and Placer).

• The Redding City Ballet and Redding Musical Theatre Company doing musical pieces and ballet at the Redding Ballet Academie, 1726 Market St. (across from the Cascade Theatre).

And that’s just a slice of it. To see the whole schedule, visit Enjoy! magazine’s website and click on the Art Hop logo.

You’ll see there are all kinds of interesting events happening, such as the fashion creations of Wil Curtis at Extravagance Salon and Boutique (1240 Pine St.); music by Hayden Ball and Andy Kessler at Medical Home Health Care Professionals (2115 Churn Creek Road); and the work of more than 20 area artists at various locations.

An incredible night. Make sure to get out somewhere!

As if there weren’t enough going on this weekend, wait!, there’s more!

A new theater company in Redding, “The Players,” will launch its first play, “Inherit the Wind,” tonight at the Center for Spiritual Living (former Spiritual Enrichment Center) at 1905 Hartnell Ave.

The play will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday (March 13-14) and March 20-21, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday (March 15) and March 22.

Reason to check it out? It stars some of top actors in town, including Bob Koroluck, Gary Anderson and Victoria Graham.

Directed by Richard Stobie, the play is based on the famous Scopes trial (evolution vs. creationism). Anderson tours nationally with his American Legends performances. He’s well-known for his one-man piece on Clarence Darrow. In this performance, however, he’ll play the Matthew Brady character, who is the William Jennings Bryan of the play.

Sounds like a very interesting show.
