KIXE’s “Water Wise” Landscape Makeover Sweepstakes is drawing to a close, which means there are only three weeks left to buy a chance at a backyard restoration valued at $25,000.
Raffle tickets, priced at $5 each or six for $25, will be sold through March 31. The north state public TV station will televise the drawing that night. Only 5,000 tickets will be sold.
Kitty Conners, KIXE’s special events coordinator, said the station is aware that many north state families are facing extra challenges in today’s tumultuous economy “and we wanted to find something that a family could really benefit from.”
Instead of a new car, boat, motor home or a vacation trip, KIXE, with help from Shasta College, Members 1st Credit Union, and eight other generous businesses, has come up with a grand prize that will benefit a lucky family for years to come.
The grand prize includes a consultation with a Shasta College horticulturist to envision a water-wise landscape design that will be developed into a plan by the school’s horticulture students. WLMS Landscaping will oversee the project and provide a crew to do the work.
Materials will be provided by Lassen Landscape Materials; Amigo Supply will provide the irrigation system; Creative Works will perform the concrete work; Shasta Growers L.L.C. will furnish the plants; and Zamora Sod Farm will bring in the sod.
Second prize is a high-end barbecue from Home Depot and third prize is $500 worth of plants from Shasta College.
Tickets can be purchased at the KIXE offices, 603 N. Market St. in Redding, by calling 243-5493, or by visiting Lassen Landscape Materials, Shasta Growers or Palo Cedro Printing.
Proceeds from the Landscape Makeover Sweepstakes support programming on KIXE, including its new digital channel CREATE (9.3), which is filled with how-to programs for families and homeowners.
