Corner Booth: Doni Speaks — Triple Update!

Our own Doni Greenberg did a great job speaking to a packed house at Writers Forum of Northern California today. Doni told how her columnist job at some unnamed newspaper went kerflooey and how that led, through one smart and/or lucky twist after another, to this here News Cafe. A wonderful success story, well told. Way to go, Doni!

  • Our pals at HawkMan Studios present a new show of photographs by Chris Schiller this month at Vintage Wine Bar and Restaurant. The photos are images from last year’s Whiskeytown fires. A reception for the artist is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday. An optional $5 wine-tasting by Mt. Tehama Winery will benefit Habitat for Humanity.
  • Really disappointed to hear that Redding Radio is pulling the plug on KPIG-AM later this month. Santa Cruz-based KPIG, with its down-home mix of country, blues and roots music, is the only AM station in our market that I can stand. Even worse, Redding Radio is canceling KPIG to give wider reach to KQMS, home of syndicated squealers Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. KPIG still will be available via 96.7 FM out of Paradise, but reception in Redding is spotty. Dang.

Headline of the Day

From page 2 of the local paper:

Taliban cement rules after truce

Man, those Taliban have rules for everything, even cement.
