From press releases.
As California enters a third summer of drought conditions, the City of Redding is urging residents to take advantage of a number of resources it offers to help conserve water as much as possible.
The request comes in the wake of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s declaration of a state of emergency on Friday. The governor declared a statewide drought last June, following two years of meager rainfall. That pattern has continued this year, and Friday’s declaration asks the state’s urban water users to cut back consumption voluntarily by 20 percent this summer.
Thanks to multiple sources and longstanding water rights contracts, the City of Redding should have ample water to supply its residents during 2009, according to Redding Municipal Utility officials. However, other communities, including those surrounding Redding, are likely to face serious shortages this summer. City officials are asking residents to help do their part to conserve as well.
