First Lady Michelle Obama has revealed plans for the new administration’s most anticipated appointment: The promised dog for daughters Sasha and Malia. Obama told People magazine that the family has settled on a breed called a Portugese water dog, and are hoping to find a rescue dog by April.
The American Kennel Club says the Portugese water dog was bred to work with fishermen, retrieving broken nets, guarding boats and delivering messages from boats to shore. Strong swimmers — natch — the dogs are medium-sized, intelligent and have a hypoallergenic coat that’s either wavy or curly. Here’s a picture of an awfully cute one I plucked off the Internet:
