Many area restaurants are struggling these days, but that’s apparently not the case at Mary’s Pizza Shack.
The casual Italian restaurant, in the Anderson outlet mall across from Prime 11 Cinema, was hopping at dinnertime Friday, with two dozen people waiting for tables. Lots of patrons were headed to the movies, but several large groups were there, too, tearing into the pizza, pasta, salad and yummy warm bread. Food’s good, prices are reasonable and, as we found, the wait staff can hustle you in and out if you’re trying to make a showtime.
- Movies We’ve Seen: “The International” with Clive Owen and Naomi Watts is a pretty standard thriller, but it is timely, since the villains are international bankers. Fast-paced travelogue of a movie, with a few nice set pieces, particularly a prolonged shootout at New York’s Guggenheim Museum.
- What I’m Reading: “Bullet Park” by John Cheever. A look at the boozy suburban culture of the 1960s, as only Cheever could tell it. Hilarious so far, with one of the best depictions of a hangover I’ve ever read.
