We have our share of odd crime here in Shasta County, but it’s hard to match this one from down in Sacramento: A man dressed in a cape and a sequined top hat carried a wooden sword into an “adult” store and stole some, um, merchandise.
According to this story in the Sacramento Bee, David William Hadeen, 36, was wearing a red cape, an American flag top hat, a green shirt, blue jeans and sneakers when he entered L’Amour Shoppe on Sunday afternoon. Hadeen went straight to a part of the store that sells “sexual-enhancing devices” and stole one worth $200. He waved his wooden sword at the store clerk and walked out.
My favorite line from the police: “The clerk didn’t approach him.” I’ll bet.
When police caught up to Hadeen a few blocks away, he’d put down his sword, but still wore his colorful getup.
A few thoughts:
- What the heck kind of “sexual-enhancing device” costs $200? (Don’t answer that. Rhetorical question. I’m quite sure that I don’t want to know.)
- AÂ green shirt and blue jeans with a red cape? That’s a fashion no-no.
- The idea of a disguise is to make yourself less noticeable. Therefore, a sequined top hat is probably a bad idea.
- I would make a large wager that alcohol consumption and perhaps a dare were involved in this crime.
- If convicted, Mr. Hadeen likely will become a popular storyteller at the prison cafeteria. This is one tale that’ll never get old.
