Super-Duper Winners & Losers

In what turned out to be one of the most entertaining Super Bowls ever, the Pittsburgh STEALERS eked out a ref-aided 27-23 victory (what? no booth review of the what turned out to be the game’s final play?) over the still hapless Arizona Cardinals. Finally, the NFL season comes to a close (no, the Pro Bowl doesn’t count).

Now, as many A News Cafe dot com readers may know, your favorite local web cartoonist had a little bet with Corner Booth author, Steve Brewer, on the outcome of the game. I wisely took the Cards and the 6.5 points (even though late money on Pittsburgh pushed the spread to 7 just prior to kickoff). Mr. Brewer went with his heart and took his beloved Steelers. Had the aforementioned Mr. Brewer beat the spread (he didn’t) I would have had to give him a day off from his A News Cafe duties by taking over his column for a day. As it stands, Steve-O will have to write and draw a cartoon for our favorite little website, thus freeing me for more important tasks, like napping.

It was indeed a great Super Bowl, congrats to the mighty Steelers, but as they pull the tarp over the ol’ gridiron we can take solace in the fact that pitchers and catchers report in two weeks. Spring is in the air and we have so very much to look forward to. Like a Steve Brewer cartoon.

Phil Fountain

Phil Fountain is a pseudonym for ANC’s prodigal cartoonist, Philbert Phountain, who has recently returned from a working hiatus where he served as the lead fact-checker for George Santos. He lives in Shasta County with his long-suffering wife, Christine, as well as a variety of layabouts and urchins who claim to be his progeny … including three grandchildren. He busies himself with his crayons and obsessing over the fate of his favorite baseball team while a small dog sleeps under his desk. He’s actually not such a bad guy as evidenced by the fact the dog rarely bites him anymore. Look for his crudely rendered drawings in future posts on A News Café.
