Call me an early addict. Steve Brewer’s scattered thoughts from his Corner Booth is a quick, fun, informational read. I can already tell I’m going to be jumping into that booth quite often.
As a writer, it’s really fascinating to examine the “voice” of other writers. Steve has this incredibly easy, natural writer’s voice that causes me, as a reader, to devour his words very quickly.
Of course when I see something I like, I typically steal it.
I’ve been told that my brain has never generated an original thought. I’m OK with that. So from my little booth, here goes my nod to the Corner Booth:
• I was at the library today, and from the second floor, I love that view out to Tiger Field. I believe it was the Simpson University baseball team out there practicing. They were doing cutoff drills from the outfield. I remember that defense practice drudgery from when I played. It’s something that has to be done, and winter is a good time for it.
• I pretty much know zero about the nuances of wine, but Alex Gaxiola at the Vintage Wine Bar is willing to discuss them with me nevertheless. Even if you don’t know what you’re talking about, it’s still fun to discuss wine for some reason. I do know this: I like what he pours me.
• I wrote a story about Racha Noodle restaurant in this month’s Enjoy magazine, but one part of that story is inaccurate. The dear Putapituckul sisters have not yet opened their 5 Thais restaurant off Dana Drive in east Redding. They had planned to open by December, but a family matter has delayed the opening.
