Not just for adults, the second Saturday ArtHop is full of kid-friendly activities, especially this month! Art Hop is a fun event for families, and many of the venues have activities aimed at families with kids.
Kick off the evening with a trip to Sweetspot for “Edible Art.” They’ve teamed up with Northstate Parent Magazine to provide an evening of delicioso where the young (and young at heart) can partake in creating their own yummy masterpieces. All visitors will receive a small cookie on which to create, so they can play and then eat what they make!
Following in last month’s success, Sweetspot is offering classes in edible art the whole month of January. The classes will begin with a giant cookie canvas, followed by cupcakes and whatever other sweets they can dream up! And on Saturdays from 1-4, people of all ages are invited to Sweetspot’s cookie class for only $6. Yum!
Also on hand that evening for ArtHop, enjoy featured artist Linda Vivas as she presents “Winter Chalk Art,” which is fun for the whole family. So stop by and indulge in art and in sweets.

Other kid-appropriate goings-on will take place at Need 2 Speed downtown. HawkMan Studios is launching “Art Attack,” a brand new event where ArtHop participants get the opportunity to be the artist. All art supplies will be provided—paints, brushes, sponges, chalk, pencils and charcoal— and will differ every month. “Art Attack” will be guided by a group of professional artists who will be available to demonstrate how the medium works and even showcase their own designs in the process. “We want ArtHop participants to gain a better understanding about the process of creating art and have a chance to interact with professional artists while having fun,” says HawkMan Studios’ Adam Mankoski. “Art Attack” is for both adults and kids. Families are encouraged to bring their kids out for the evening to experience art in a fun, un-intimidating environment. Adds Mankoski, “Who knows, ‘Art Attack’ may be the spark that inspires the next generation of North State artists!”
“Art Attack” is free to the public, but participants can contribute a suggested $1 per person donation. All proceeds will benefit regional non-profit organizations, with January proceeds to benefit Bella Vista Farms.
No ordinary children’s center, Abba’s Child Learning Center will also play host to family-oriented ArtHop activities. On Saturday they will feature a “Snowflakes and Snowmen” night, with both artists and musicians, so that people can come and hang out. The kids can participate in the winter-themed arts and crafts while the parents can lounge and enjoy great music. Beginning in February, the center will feature the art and music of children. “It’s important in the community to have children exhibit their artwork someplace other than their school hallways,” says Director Judith D’Amico. “Showcasing them will encourage them in those areas.” Abba’s Child Learning Center is located at 1640 Tehama St.
ArtHop runs the second Saturday of every month, from 6-9 p.m.
Look for an event map in Enjoy magazine. No need for that sitter; grab the whole family and hit the town this Saturday, Jan. 10.
