During the past several years changes to state law in the forms of Assembly Bill (AB) 109, Proposition 47 and Proposition 57 have made fundamental alterations to the fabric of California’s criminal justice system.
California cities, counties and the state are facing increased crime which endangers the health and safety of the residents, business owners, police officers and property.
The City of Redding Police Department has been supported by the Redding City Council to implement a program called “Taking Back our Community.” This is a three point process:
- Explaining what is happening in the City of Redding regarding public safety after the passing of AB 109, Proposition 47 & 57.
- Providing a pamphlet on the Redding Police Department’s website and also available for dissemination to the community explaining this complex topic and why there is an increase in crime.
- Suggestions of what citizens can do in the form of writing letters or emails to legislators and the governor demanding action.
The information can be located on the Redding Police Department’s website at reddingpolice.org by clicking on the “Taking Back Our Community” button. Copies of the letter are also located in the lobby of the police department.
The Redding Police Department thanks the citizens for their support and cooperation as we strive to increase public safety at the local and state level. We urge every citizen of Redding to view the information on the police department website, then take a few minutes to write or email the Governor and your state legislators expressing your concerns. This “grass roots” effort can have a positive impact.
