Here in Redding, drops of water are falling from a cloudy sky. What gives? How come everything’s getting all wet?
Wait, what? Oh.
Sorry, I’ve just been informed that this is rain. It’s been so long since we last had any, I’d forgotten all about it.
Never mind.
- A lovely cool, gray day to follow one spent largely on the sofa, watching NFL games. Pretty good opening Sunday, with some close games and some last-minute comebacks. Tons of fun. For scores and highlights, click here. I’m especially pleased for the San Francisco 49ers, who upset last year’s NFC champ Arizona Cardinals. I’m looking forward to Monday Night Football’s double-header tonight, and will pull for Phil Fountain’s beleaguered Raiders. Don’t know how Phil feels about it, but I like Jon Gruden as color commentator better than that newspaper guy, whatever his name was, the Crypt Keeper. Now if only someone will tell Ron Jaworski to stop yelling.
- I Hear That Train A-Comin’: Hey, wasn’t it fun watching Raette Meredith’s Cottonwood mural take shape here at A News Cafe? Great job, Raette!
- When I was in school, I was one of those kids who hated to “dress out” for physical education classes. Now, working at home, I spend all day every day in my workout duds. Housework, writing, shopping, public appearances, whatever. I’m dressed for P.E.
- Big travel event on Tuesday night at Cheesecakes Unlimited on East Cypress Avenue in Redding. Downtown Travel sponsors the catered event, which will include door prizes and travel discounts, as well as representatives from cruise lines and vacation packagers. Space is limited. RSVP to 241-3476.
- Beware the Burrito: A California company has announced a recall on individually wrapped “Butcher Boy Red Chile Beef & Bean Burritos” because of possible listeria contamination. For details, click here.
