Live Nude Music!

OK, the “nude” part was just a ploy to get you clicking into this blog. I’m not proud of it.

But I can justify it: You see, musicians often feel exposed — naked even — in front of their audiences.

And that’s the great thing about the exchange of live music — it’s all right there to see and hear. Do you feel better?

Anyway, you’re gonna get a lot of bang for your click, because here’s a bunch of live music options for this first week of August:

Wednesday, Aug. 5: Joni Morris at Mosquito Serenade at Anderson River Park. She’ll sing Patsy Cline tunes and other music made famous by classic country females. Chad Bushnell opens the show at 6:30 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 6: Joe Craven at MarketFest at Library Park in downtown Redding. Craven can play anything (fiddle, mandolin, percussion, dogs — really! he said they resonate). He’s one of the great guys of music and spent a long time making the David Grisman Quintet a killer combo. Everybody likes sharing the stage with him. Should be an excellent MarketFest (6 to 8:30 p.m.).

— Also performing Thursday night is acoustic guitarist Mary Flower at Old City Hall Arts Center, 1313 Market St. in downtown Redding. Tickets are $15. Click her link, she looks good.

— Also: funk/rock/jazz act Forever Growing at the North Star Brewery in Shasta Lake.

Friday, Aug. 7: Frank DiSalvo’s Swing Street at the Turtle Bay Cafe in Redding. DiSalvo may love the music of Frank Sinatra more than anyone else in the region (well, Slam Buckra might give him a run on that). But in addition to being a fine singer, DiSalvo is also a stellar guitar player as well as amazing builder of guitars. His excellent four-piece combo plays from about 7 to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday near the Sundial Bridge.

— Also: SYNRGY, a reggae band from Humboldt County (what! they like reggae there?), performs at North Star Brewery.

— Tree-O, an acoustic group from Davis, performs at Friday Night in the Park at Clair Engle Park in Shasta Lake from 6 to 9 p.m. (This is Shasta Lake’s MarketFest and they have an new stage area, and there are several improvements to the park as well — new bathrooms, sidewalks, playground, etc.).

Saturday, Aug. 8: The Shasta Blues Revue performs at the 2nd Saturday Art Hop kickoff (5 p.m. at The Studio Experience, 3404 Bechelli Lane in Redding). Rick Larsen’s group plays a super selection of blues tunes and Rick’s written a bunch of them.

Sunday, Aug. 9: Sila & the Afrofunk Experience at the Mt. Shasta Music Festival Summer Concert Series at the Mt. Shasta Resort in Mount Shasta. He’s been called the James Brown of Africa and this danceable show kicks off at 4:30 p.m. Click here to see other shows in the series.

What do I know with full certainty? What do I know to be true to my core? This: There are several live music options that I have not listed here. PLEASE, if you’re a musician who has a gig this week (or anytime soon), or you know of a live show not listed here, please comment below to add it to the list. I’m going to do the same when it hits me (like a Les Paul to the forehead) what I’ve forgotten.

By the way, I just listed stuff I found through Sunday (Aug. 9), but feel free to list anything coming up beyond that. Just trying to get the word out.
