Turtle Bay Exploration Park and its Board of Trustees have recently approved and adopted a strategic plan for 2015-2019. Turtle Bay has established the overarching goal to elevate Turtle Bay as an essential organization in the fabric and future of our community by focusing on six goals, as funding becomes available:
· Refresh the oldest area of the park, Paul Bunyan’s Forest Camp
· Main the facility through necessary infrastructure updates
· Increase park accessibility to grow audience base
· Create exhibits and educational programs to best serve the community
· Strengthen the park’s financial stability
· Strive to meet best practices in related fields
The need for a strategic plan for the Park has been a long time coming. Since the recession in 2007, like many non-profits, Turtle Bay has had to make do with less. In 2013, staff participated in an American Alliance of Museum’s Museum Assessment Program and it was clear that it was time to invest in the Park. As stated in the strategic plan, “Such investment will help us meet the needs of today’s audiences and transform the Turtle Bay loved by its key stakeholders to one embraced by the entire community and the visitors the region aims to attract in its current emphasis on a tourism economy.”
The strategic plan process started with the Museum Assessment Program and continued with collaborative efforts from Turtle Bay’s department managers. Once the goals and ideas were fairly solidified, Turtle Bay had an open comment period for members and partners and received a great deal of positive feedback to further perfect the plan.
With the strategic plan in place, Turtle Bay’s work is far from over and the community and supporters are invited to get involved in Turtle Bay’s progress by supporting the park. More information on volunteer and donor opportunities is available at www.turtlebay.org.
