- The hot news around the world has been the death of singer Michael Jackson, but I haven’t been able to work up much grief. I was never a huge fan, and his ever-progressing weirdness was too much for me. Given the excesses of pop-star life, how can anyone be surprised that he met an early demise? Still, I do feel sorry for his family, his kids and his many, many mourning fans.
- From USA Today: “The cause of Michael Jackson’s death is still undetermined, and won’t be known for four to six weeks, but the Los Angeles coroner’s office declared Friday evening that so far there are no medical signs of foul play or trauma to the body.” Excuse me, but did they look at his face? If all that plastic surgery wasn’t “trauma to the body,” then I don’t know what is.
- Sports: The Sacramento Kings drafted what could turn out to be the first Israeli to ever play in the NBA. Omri Casspi, a 6-foot-9 forward, was the Kings’ second pick in this week’s draft. Casspi, 20, played for Maccabi Tel Aviv last season. Three other Israeli players have been drafted by NBA teams over the years, but none ever made the cut. For more, click here.
