Shasta Senior Nutrition Program Partners with Older Adult Policy Council to Present the Healthy Aging Summit 2015

Shasta Senior Nutrition Program in partnership with the Older Adult Policy Council is proud to present the annual “Healthy Aging Summit.” Healthy Aging Summit 2015 invites Shasta County seniors to learn ways to stay healthy and active, and receive resources for chronic disease management.  The event will be held on Friday, May 8, 2015, from 9 am to 1:30 pm at Shasta Senior Nutrition Program, 100 Mercy Oaks Drive in Redding.

This local effort is part of the Older Americans Awareness Month activities, This year’s theme is “Get into the Act,” with a focus on how older adults are taking charge of their health, getting engaged in their communities and making a positive impact in the lives of others. This event provides opportunities for seniors 50 years of age and older to receive free health screenings, information, and referrals for senior services and other health resources.

There will be Health Talks and Presentations by the Health Insurance & Advocacy Program (HICAP) on Medicare and Consumer Fraud, Attorney Margret “Peggy” Burton, from Johnson Law Offices, APC will be presenting on Advance Directives and Power of Attorney, Pharmacist, Chris Kristopher of Cottonwood Drugs & Medical Supplies, will speak on Medication Management and Mark Haslam, Shasta County Sheriff’s Department, will present information on Senior Fraud and other Consumer Fraud.

In partnership with Golden Umbrella Senior Corps, this year’s event will host a unique exhibit of historic artifacts, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Lusitania. There will also be Exercise and Healthy Cooking demonstrations and local health organizations, agencies and providers will have booths to share the resources and services they offer for seniors.

“We are excited to celebrate Older Americans Month by holding this event that helps seniors remain healthy and acknowledges the contributions of our local elders, as they continue to enrich and strengthen our communities,” states Debbie McClung, Executive Director for Shasta Senior Nutrition Program.
