Shasta Genealogical Society Presents “Who Do You Think You Are?” Jan. 31

Shasta Genealogical Society is proud and excited to offer this new event, “Who Do You Think You Are?” to our community. Our members have knowledge and enthusiasm for researching family history that we are eager to share.

“Who Do You Think You Are?” takes place Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Redding Library from noon to 4 p.m. upstairs in the computer room. It is free to the public.

If you have always had a hankering to find out more about your family’s history, come on down and we’ll help you get started. If you’ve already dipped your toes in family research waters, but you’re not sure where to go next, join us for an afternoon of wading in deeper for new information.

If you are already a member of SGS, we encourage you to participate – consider volunteering to help with the event and/or bring your own “brick wall” and we’ll brainstorm some possible solutions.

Remember to bring the family history you know: names, dates and locations are the absolute building blocks of family research. Bring what you have to help us help you. Also bring a flash drive so you may take home the information we find.

We will provide some basic forms, either through our website or at the event. These forms will help to keep your information organized as you expand your knowledge. Organization will help you go farther faster.

We encourage anyone with an interest in family history to join our Society. Membership is open to all levels of experience, from novice to expert. You will enjoy the friendly folks and our members may have solved a research problem you have. We meet January through June and September through November at the LDS Church (Primary Room) on the third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.

Topics range from “Show and Tell” (sharing a personal research breakthrough) to computer and other tech aids to historical field trips.

Family Membership fees are $15 annually and include access to our members with a vast array of research experience. We invite you to attend one of our meetings and experience our community of like-minded people. For more information, send an email to sgs106@hotmail.com or call Mike Witesman at 530 949-9422.
