Corner Booth: Crime and Nourishment

Crime is down across the country, according to new statistics released today by the FBI.

Violent crime was down 2.5 percent in 2008 from the year before, and property crimes fell 1.6 percent.

The biggest drops in both categories were in the West. The Northeast reported an uptick in property crimes in 2008, but crime was down in all other sections of the country.

One odd twist: While crime was down in cities, it jumped up in towns of less than 10,000 people, the FBI said. To see the report, click here.

As Kelly reported back in February, Redding Police said crime here rose 22.45 percent in 2008, but part of that increase was believed to be the result of new statistical software that tallied crimes that might’ve been omitted in the past.
