Here are some random noodlings from A News Cafe.com’s Cartoon Department:
Phun Phact: Did you know that Nebraska is actually an imaginary place and doesn’t really exist? It was invented by the U.S. Government as a way to scare people in Kansas, which contrary to popular belief, actually DOES exist.

A News Cafe.com’s own Jim Dyar, a refugee from Colorado, has foolishly sought a wager on the outcome of the Nuggets-Lakers NBA Western Conference Finals match-up. He, naturally, holds onto the misguided notion that the Denver Nuggets will overcome the Purple and Gold from La-La Land. But, as we’ve seen in game one, my Lakers are the superior team. In a nutshell; The Lakers are looking to advance to their 30th appearance in the NBA Finals. The Nuggets? Well, they’ve never made it that far. ‘Nuff said. Need more reasons why the Lakers will dispose of the boys from Denver? Here’s 10…
1. Kobe was named after a steak. Carmello was named after a candy bar.
2. Where I come from, a ‘nugget’ is not something one aspires to be.
3. The Lakers play at sea level. The Nuggets have been oxygen deprived all season.
4. The Lakers are 11-1 against the Nuggets in the playoffs. History matters.
5. Jack Nicholson sits courtside at Laker games, Tim Allen sits in the third row at Nuggets games.
6. How can you take a guy named ‘Chauncey’ seriously?
7. The Laker Girls. Hey, do NOT diss the Laker Girls.
8. Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum are 7 feet tall, nobody is 7 feet tall on the Nuggets.
9. What the hell kind of name is Nene? We called my grandmother Nay-nay, and she had NO inside game either.
10. The Denver Nuggets began their life as an ABA team. They beat Will Farrell’s team in order to be included in the merger. Will Farrell.
Bring it on, Jimmy-Baby!

Interested in Zen? Meditation? The San Francisco Zen Center is celebrating the 50th anniversary of founder Suzuki Roshi’s arrival in America by dedicating a website to his dharma talks. Transcripts of these lectures are being posted in chronological order so interested parties can follow Suzuki’s teachings as they were delivered. Suzuki Roshi established the first Zen school/monastary in the United States and is frequently cited as among those responsible for bringing Zen to America. His book Zen Mind, Beginners Mind is a classic and serves as a great starting point for us Westerners interested in learning about this ancient practice.
Speaking of the San Francisco Zen Center, we have our own Lee Riggs who was ordained a Zen priest at SFZC and now teaches Zen meditation at the Blind Donkey Zendo in Anderson. Riggs offers instruction and the occasional ‘retreat’ for anyone wanting to check out meditation and Buddhism.
