Corner Booth: Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head

Slim pickings here at The Corner Booth because we’re swamped with preparations for the Frugalista Flea Market, which are steaming along, with sellers unloading tons of stuff Friday afternoon in a soft rain.

The flea market is going to be huge. Everything from furniture to Christmas ornaments.  The entire gym is a bazaar of the bizarre and the outdated and the overstocked. Stuff is priced to move. Bring your truck on Saturday and Sunday.

The crew at our house ferried four vehicle-loads of clothes, trinkets, kitchenware, books and maybe 200 vinyl LPs (pop, rock, blues, country that we’re selling for $1 each). To get this stuff into the gym at Cypress Elementary (across from City Hall), we had to make an estimated 407 trips between vehicles and gym. In the rain.

Kelly was there for hours, setting up merchandise, but we guys vanished as soon as the unloading was done, hurrying home for food and towels.

An eager, if damp, volunteer was my buddy Frank Zoretich, who’s visiting from Seattle. (You’ll remember Frank’s recent piece My God, the Cat.) Frank and I have competed for 20-plus years for the Scrabble Championship of the World, and occasionally we get together and torture ourselves over tiles with letters on them.

You’ll see Kelly and Doni and Bruce and others from ANewsCafe at the flea market this weekend. Frank and I might stop by between Scrabble games.

Signed,

The Reigning Champ
