The Sacramento River Trail, already one of Redding’s nicest features, will get further improvements, thanks to a $350,000 grant announced by the California Department of Transportation.
The money will be used to improve the trail around the Auditorium Drive area. Sections of the trail will be widened and furniture, signs and water fountains will be added. The money was part of $298 million the California Transportation Commission allocated to 81 projects around the state.
Officials said most of that money came from Proposition 1B, the 2006 transportation bond approved by voters, but $62 million to be used in the southern part of the state comes from federal economic stimulus funds.
- Federal stimulus funds also mean a boost for the estimated 17,500 Shasta County residents who use food stamps, according to Shasta County Public Health. Effective immediately, recipients will see a 13.6 percent increase in their benefits. The average monthly food stamp benefit will increase from about $300 per household to $341.
- Fun With Craigslist: In the “barter” section in the Redding Craigslist ads, we find the following: Large fishing polls and reels for mini bike. Which begs the question: How many fish do you have to interview before the poll is consider “large?”
