Redding Trio Arrested for String of Retail Robberies

On December 28, 2012 the Redding Police Department arrested three suspects involved in several cases that occurred over the past few weeks. Jeffry Ryan Jones (25 years of Redding), Blake Allen Edwards (24 years of Redding), and Hillary Maude Larsen (21 years of Redding) were all arrested and booked at the Shasta County Jail.

On November 1, 2012 a robbery occurred at the Kohl’s store at 895 Browning Drive. During the incident an unknown male and female fled the store with merchandise. A store security employee attempted to stop the two suspects. The male suspect took an aggressive fighting stance and told the security employee to back away. The employee backed away and the two suspects fled with the stolen merchandise. The entire incident was captured on the store surveillance video. RPD Case #12-77518.

Store security received an e-mail via CrimeWatch from Redding Police Investigations Division regarding the arrest of Jeffry Jones and Hillary Larsen. The e-mail was sent to alert businesses that both suspects had been identified stealing over $2,000 of baby merchandise from Walmart in Redding during the month of November. The e-mail included the photos of both suspects. Store security was able to identify both suspects as the same suspects who committed the robbery at Kohl’s on November 1, 2012.

On December 22, 2012 the Redding Police Department responded to a robbery at the JC Penny store at 950 Dana Drive. Jeffry Jones and Hillary Larsen both selected merchandise and fled the store without paying for the items. Two female store security employees attempted to stop Jones and Larsen. Both suspects began fighting with security and Jones fled on foot. Larsen attempted to punch and bite security in an attempt to get away. Larsen was ultimately detained. Larsen was booked into the Shasta County Jail for burglary and Jones was not located. RPD Case #12-89174.

On December 27, 2012 the Redding Police Investigations Division received surveillance photos from Sportsman’s Warehouse at 1643 Hilltop Drive via CrimeWatch. The surveillance photos were of two unknown suspects stealing throwing knives from the store. Investigators were able to identify Jeffry Jones and Blake Edwards as the two suspects in the photos. On December 28, 2012 Investigators located Jeffry Jones at a motel room at the Hilltop Lodge. Jones refused to open the door and was taken into custody after a brief struggle. Jones was in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. Jones was transported to the Investigations Division and interviewed.

He admitted to his involvement in each of the cases listed above. Jones was booked at the Shasta County Jail for two counts of robbery, conspiracy to commit burglary, possession of heroin, and possession of drug paraphernalia. This was the fifth time Jones has been arrested and booked by the Redding Police Department in the past two months.

Blake Edwards was contacted at his parent’s residence in the 2600 block of Queens Way in Redding. Edwards was arrested without incident and the throwing knives stolen from Sportsman’s Warehouse were recovered. Edwards was transported to the Investigations Division and interviewed. Edwards admitted to the burglary at Sportsman’s Warehouse. He was booked at the Shasta County Jail for burglary.

Hillary Larsen had a felony warrant for her arrest regarding the Walmart thefts. Larsen turned herself in at the Investigations Division. She was interviewed and admitted to the robbery at JC Penny and Kohl’s. She also admitted to being in the getaway vehicle during the burglary at Sportsman’s Warehouse. Larsen was booked at the Shasta County Jail for the felony warrant and the additional cases were submitted to the District Attorney for prosecution.
