Local fans of the new president threw a fun party at the Hilton Garden Inn the other night. It was a terrific event with music and food and a TV replaying the day’s activities. I’d praise all the people who put the gala together, but I’d omit some or otherwise screw it up, so I’ll just say thanks. They know who they are.
It got a little close in there at times, so I stepped outside to cool off, and ran into Kimberly Ross of the local paper. She’s always been one of my favorite people on that staff, and she is expecting a baby, and it was nice to hear she’s doing well.
Turns out she was camped in the lobby because she didn’t have a ticket. She gleaned enough from people going in and out to get her story, but she would’ve had a lot more fun inside.
I’ve been on the outside looking in many times over the past 30 years. At least she had a comfortable place to sit. Indoors. I remember times when I stood in freezing rain or sandstorms to get stories for the AP. I never was pregnant, however, so Kimberly’s one-up on me there.
I like this new job, where I get to go to the party rather than stand outside.
