CRIME/INCIDENT: Resisting Arrest and Assault on a Peace Officer

VICTIM(S): Sergeant Clegg and Deputy Renfer
SUSPECTS(S): Christopher MCHATTON (18) and Kathleen MCHATTON (40)
SYNOPSIS:
On Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at approximately 1500 hrs, Sergeant Clegg and Deputy Renfer
went to the 380 Lake Blvd address to arrest Christopher MCHATTON for a felony assault
that occurred the night before. While outside the residence attempting to arrest Christopher
MCHATTON, he became assaultive and resisted arrest. While attempting to gain control of the
suspect and place him in handcuffs, his mother, Kathleen MCHATTON, physically intervened to
prevent the arrest of her son. Other friends and family members exited the residence and began
yelling obscenities at the deputies. Deputies had to call for backup units, including Redding
Police Department. While backup units responded to the scene, individuals fled the scene and
chemical agents were used to gain control of the suspects.
