This morning, Robert Parker Milton was sentenced to 50 years-to-life in prison plus 2 years and 8 months in prison, for the murder of 71-year-old William Dressler on August 29, 2024. Prior to sentencing the defense requested the court strike the firearm enhancement in the interest of justice; an enhancement that carries a sentence of 25 years-to-life. The court denied this request.
At sentencing William’s family, including his ex-wife Bonnie Dressler and his daughter Brittany Dressler, provided deeply emotional statements to the court, paying tribute to William and remembering the profound positive impact he had on their lives.
In April, a Shasta County jury found Milton guilty of First-Degree Murder and three counts of Resisting an Executive Officer. In addition, all the associated enhancements to the charges were also found to be true including that the crime involved great violence and a high degree of cruelty viciousness or callousness, that Milton engaged in violent conduct that indicates a serious danger to society, and that Milton personally and intentionally discharged of a firearm causing great bodily injury or death. In a secondary trial, the jury also determined that Milton was sane at the time he committed the crimes.
This case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Toby Powell. The investigation was led by Corporal Mike Enyart of the Redding Police Department, with additional assistance from Redding Police Detectives Jamie Rouland, Jeremiah Kasinger, and Jerid Heyne. Victim Coordinator Robyn Reger of the Crime Victims Assistance Center has provided ongoing support to the victim’s family.
