Shasta College Presents “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” for Fall Play

Mischievous fairies, tangled love triangles, and an enchanted forest collide in Shasta College’s fall production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, William Shakespeare’s timeless romantic comedy. Directed by Dr. Greg Thorson, this lively and accessible adaptation brings together mistaken identities, love potions, and an earnest band of amateur actors determined to stage a play—despite spells, chaos, and transformations. The result is a fast-paced, family-friendly romp through one of Shakespeare’s most beloved works.

The play follows Hermia, a young woman in love with Lysander, though promised to another, and Helena, her best friend who harbors feelings for Hermia’s intended. Their journey into the woods near Athens leads them into the midst of the Fairy Court — a world of enchantment, mischief, and magical mishaps. As love potions, mistaken identities, and an eager troupe of amateur actors collide, chaos and comedy ensue.

This lively, family-friendly adaptation will run approximately 85 minutes with an intermission. Performances will be October 10, 11, 17, and 18 at 7:00 p.m. with matinee performances on October 12 and 19 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 General, $10 for seniors and $5 for students. Performances will be in the Shasta College Theatre, one of the largest and most technically advanced performance spaces in the North State.

The production will feature costumes by Hilary Fahey and hair and makeup by Mat McDonald, with set design by David Fraser and lighting design by Tim Dye, promising a visually rich and engaging experience for audiences of all ages.
