On Thursday, September 4, 2025, at approximately 9:58 AM, Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies from the Burney Station responded to a report of an assault on an adult female at a residence on the 20000 block of Marquette Street, Burney. It was reported the victim had been struck multiple times on the head with a hammer by her adult son.
Once on scene, deputies located the victim at a nearby residence. She was immediately
transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Victor Sage Kersten. Kersten was located at the
residence where the assault occurred. Deputies on scene made contact with Kersten by
telephone and he exited the residence unarmed and was taken into custody.
Kersten was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of 664/187 PC Attempted Murder, 245(a)(1) PC Assault with a Deadly Weapon, 243(d) PC Aggravated Battery, 368(b)(1) PC Willful Infliction of Physical or Mental Suffering to an Elder or Dependent Adult, and 148(A)(1) PC Resist/Delay/Obstruct a Peace Officer.
