On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at approximately 8:16 PM, Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Small Farms Drive and Duck Canyon Lane, Igo, to a report that a male had fired a gun at their family which included two adults and three juveniles. Dispatchers used a translation service to communicate with the reporting party due to the victims being Spanish
speaking.
The caller told dispatchers the man, later identified as 68-year-old Timothy Ray Thompson, of Igo, pulled up near their residence in a vehicle, and fired multiple shots from a shotgun at the caller and their family while yelling racial slurs. The family members, who were outside at the time, retreated inside the residence. No one was injured.
Arriving deputies learned that Thompson had returned to his residence on the 15000 block of Small Farms Drive. Additional residents in the area told deputies that Thompson was acting erratically and was possibly in possession of additional weapons.
Due to the circumstances, members of the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team responded with the Sheriff’s Office Bearcat Armored Rescue Vehicle. Search and arrest warrants were secured for Thompson and his residence. Thompson was located by SWAT Team members in a trailer on the property and was taken into custody. Upon execution of the search warrant several additional firearms were located.
Thompson was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on the following charges:
• 422(a) PC Threaten Crime with Intent to Terrorize
• 422.6(A) PC Violate Civil Rights By Force or Threat of Force
• 245(A)(2) PC Assault With A Firearm
• 273A(A) PC Child Abuse With Possibly Great Bodily Injury/Death
• 246 PC Shoot at an Inhabited Dwelling/Vehicle
• 30605(A) PC Illegally Possess Any Assault Weapon
• 33215 PC Manufacture/Import/Etc. Short Barreled Rifle
Thompson’s bail is set at $500,000. The victims say they have no connection to or prior history with Thompson and a motive is unknown at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
