Big event of the week in Redding art circles is the reception for our own Troy Hawkins on Tuesday evening at Vintage Wine Bar & Restaurant.
Troy, co-founder of ArtHop and an accomplished artist, teacher and jewelry-maker, will show “Journal Entries,” his abstract expressionistic paintings based on childhood memories. Our own Jim Dyar and friends will provide the music. The event begins at 6 p.m. Appetizers will be provided by HawkMan Studios; no-host bar.
Kelly and I have a conflict, but other members of the anewscafe.com team will be in attendance. Should be a blast!
- Friday and Saturday, horticulture students at Shasta College hold their annual Holiday Plant Sale. Poinsettias, house plants and Christmas decorations — all grown and made by students — are on sale at this popular event. The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days at the Shasta College Farm.
- Monday Morning QB: I was traveling/sleeping on Sunday and didn’t watch the games, which is just as well. My beloved Steelers fell to the hapless Raiders in a game that will live in ignominy. Niners lost a squeaker to the Seahawks. The Saints remain undefeated by pulling a rabbit out of a hat to beat the Redskins in overtime. Tonight’s game between the Ravens and the Packers should be a good one. More football news here.
- December is National Drunk and Drugged Driving Month, and law enforcement types in eastern Shasta County are marking it by serving non-alcoholic “COPtails” on Friday in Fall River Mills. The annual event, which aims to show people how they can celebrate responsibly, will be at the Fall River Hotel & Restaurant from 6 to 8 p.m.
