Shasta County announces the resignation of Paul Hellman, Director of Resource Management, effective Tuesday, September 3, 2024. After six years of dedicated service, Paul has made the decision to step down from his role to pursue another professional opportunity, leaving behind a legacy of impactful contributions to the community.
Paul Hellman joined the Shasta County team shortly after the devastating Carr Fire, a time when our community, was in need of strong leadership and vision. Much like the fire that reshaped our landscape, Paul reshaped the Department of Resource Management with his unwavering dedication, expertise, and work ethic.
During his tenure, Paul was instrumental in the development and implementation of several critical ordinances and projects that have had a lasting positive impact on our community. His work included the establishment of cannabis and industrial hemp ordinances, the prohibition of large wind energy systems, and the adoption of a commercial wireless telecommunication ordinance. Paul also played a pivotal role in wildfire disaster recovery ordinances, two housing element updates, impact fee ordinance amendments, and the acquisition of a State drought relief grant. Additionally, his leadership was key in opposing the Fountain Wind project.
Paul’s commitment to Shasta County has been deeply appreciated by both his colleagues and the community. His leadership has set a high standard within the Department of Resource Management, and his departure will be felt by many. The respect and admiration he has earned from his staff are a testament to his ability to inspire and guide with integrity.
On behalf of Shasta County, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Paul for his years of service and the numerous contributions he has made to improve our community. We wish him the very best in all his future endeavors and trust that his next chapter will be as successful as his time here.
