At approximately 5:42 AM on July 29th, a security guard was patrolling the commercial property located at 20 Lake Boulevard and located an injured adult male on a discarded sofa, behind the building. She immediately called 911 and Redding Police responded, along with emergency medical personnel. The initial first responders determined the male was deceased and had severe trauma to his head and face. Video from the business was obtained and depicted a juvenile male, armed with a baseball bat, bludgeoning the sleeping victim. Redding Police Detectives assumed the investigation and canvassed the area. During their investigation, they encountered a 15-year-old male, who they were able to identify as the suspect from the surveillance video. The male juvenile was detained and transported to the Redding Police Detectives Division.
The suspect was ultimately booked into the Shasta County Juvenile Rehabilitation Facility for charges of 187(a) PC – Murder and 12022(b)(1) PC – Commission of a felony while armed. The victim has been identified as a 55-year-old male resident of Redding, but his name cannot be released until the Shasta County Coroner’s Office has made notification to next of kin.
