On Monday, April 29, 2024, Chico State President Steve Perez and Interim Superintendent/President of Shasta College, Dr. Kevin O’Rorke, will sign a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize dual admission and streamline the transfer process for students interested in pursuing their bachelor’s degree at Chico State. They will be joined by other leaders from Butte College, College of the Siskiyous, Feather River College, Lassen Community College, Woodland Community College, and Yuba College as they sign similar memoranda in a demonstration of support for transfer students across our North State service region.
This guaranteed admission and accompanying support mechanisms lay the groundwork for simplifying and easing transfer students’ pathways to pursue four-year degrees, credentials, and further education within their region.
“I am pleased to announce our recent collaboration with Chico State, focused on supporting our transfer students as they pursue their educational goals,” said Dr. Kevin O’Rorke. “Our dedication to fostering community growth and competitiveness through education, training, and services remains steadfast. This MOU is a testament to our commitment to providing our students with the necessary resources and support to achieve their higher education aspirations.”
The benefits of the collaboration include that Chico State guarantees admission to students from those seven colleges as long as they meet minimum eligibility requirements and apply by published deadlines; Chico State will extend a dual admission program invitation through the Transfer Success Pathway (TSP) to eligible first-time, first-year applicants at the end of their high school career after being denied admission; that each college will establish a mechanism for early identification of students who are interested in transferring and schedule a campus tour
for those students, and that Chico State educational opportunities will be promoted at the individual community college campuses.
“Chico State has long been proud and honored to be the comprehensive University of the North State, providing an exceptional and affordable education in an accessible and familiar campus for students across our 12-county service region,” said President Steve Perez. “We want to ensure that any student who wants a Chico State degree can earn one, and to build off the remarkable educations provided by our community colleges. For thousands of students every year, a community college is the right choice for starting their path to a four-year degree and we want to support them in taking that next step.”
Following a short program, a ceremonial signing will take place at 2:00 p.m. After the event, the Rural Affinity Center and the Transfer Student Success Center will be toured.
